I’ve lived in the South, though not in the state of
Misery Missouri. I’ve seen black people treated like cattle and gotten in trouble for not going blithely along with it. And those memories of the South, in the mid to late 1960’s are why I would never agree to live there again.
So watching Ferguson, Missouri convulse with murderous racism and so forth this week has been deeply disturbing. I’ve had recurring nightmares of a sort not seen in my life since 1965! So, I can scarcely imagine what it must be like to be LIVING there or being a reporter there.
Teargas, not just for protestors now? But for international reporters seeing what they shouldn’t see, photographing what Missouri wants to hide under their home-woven racist rugs? And they basically consider reporters from outside to be invaders of some sort, not allowed to record what they see? And sure, it is all “outside agitators“…..could never be homegrown yokel sorts of asshattery to blame. Americans in Ferguson are free, alright, free to run from cops or obey. So, I will stick with this “quote of the day,” thanks.
And, et tu, St. Louis?
