Can We Leave Now, Please?

1mondays suck so hard be in pornThere is occasionally a great outburst of “OMG, we can’t leave Afghanistan because the Taliban will make women’s lives hell again.” Ok, I get that, I do. I am a feminist of the very old type who doesn’t want to argue about whether penetrative sex is ALL rape even when one says “Hell, yeah!”
I want women paid the same as men, I want women free to determine their reproductive lives, I want women educated.

However, I’ve been around this block enough times to know that nobody, fucking NOBODY, can liberate someone who does not want to be liberated. So, sure, I feel for Afghani women and a large number of them want to be freed. But you know what? The only way to do that in that medieval shithole of a country would be to airlift every mother’s daughter of them OUT of the fucking country. A sort of Frank Herbert “White Plague” locally inflicted by aircraft, if you will. THAT might be the only thing that would make women valuable in that nasty little country.

Because when your big brother puts a bomb on your chest and sends you to the local cop shop to go “Boom!” — it is time to call it quits with the usual methods.

Herland

The name of this blog, and my Dreamwidth blog, Herlander Refugee, is taken from a 1915 feminist novel "Herland". It makes my heart sing that modern women are experimenting with creation of a new "Herland"! Yes, comments are closed. Anyone who just MUST reach me can do so at syrbal6 at gmail dot com.
