Why I Don’t Buy Bookmarks

12/25/2013 by syrbal-labrys

I don’t buy bookmarks. I make my own. And the favorite ones are double-sided sturdy, long-lasting ones made from the often delightful cards sent to me by friends far away! Like these:
The first is a marvelous holiday card from Germany, the other is a couple years old and was sent from Trinity Library in Ireland…showing the library’s spiral staircase. And the back sides show the book stacks of the library, and the forest the wee gnome is heading for with his fox!

And that is why I never need buy bookmarks!

Pretty, but I got out of the habit of using them. I used to read a lot of books at work. One of the guys thought it was funny to pull out my bookmarks so I’d lose my place. I got in the habit of memorizing my page number. The habit stuck.

    • What a jerk. I also make some that are pieces of cording or yarn with beaded bits at both ends; those are very difficult to pull out of a book and they work best on books that I carry around, away from my desk.
