Thanks Are Given….

11/27/2013 by syrbal-labrys

…even though I do not celebrate Thanksgiving in traditional American style (possibly because I don’t celebrate ANY religiously mandated holiday) and I refuse to consider a 1BlueStarturkey cooked in a dishwasher. (In fact, thanks to that article, I may avoid considering turkey AT all this year!)

But thankful, I am! My youngest son is OUT of Afghanistan and on his way home a month early! I won’t be seeing him anytime soon, but I am so grateful he will be on American soil by nightfall!

My weekend begins this afternoon, and will be given over to decorating for Yule, and worrying over medical things: the lovely bride to be (the prettiest member of our household) has surgery this Friday and the Minotaur and I have to go to the VA Hospital to work out issues with his hearing aids. Ah, memories of old war…loss of hearing from being too near the artillery!

Happy Thanksgiving to those of you who will be gathering with family and friends tomorrow. I will be stringing lights and hanging shining glass thingies!

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That just cheered all the black friday asshole angst right out of me! 😀

    • Yeah, relief trumps damned near everything else, eh?

It absolutely does! People want to get trampled for a shitty product they can have at it.

      • Well, I won’t be there trampling OR being trampled, and that is good enough for me.

Nor me. Black Friday gets along without me. A number of years ago my daughter and I were going to shop on BF just to have the experience. We slept in, went for brunch, and decided that counted. So we we back to our respective homes. *grin*

      • I once had a friend who relished the mosh pit known as Filene’s Basement for Black Friday. And gee, we all thought the gladiatorial games ended with Rome?

I actually never liked anything about this holiday, in grade school I hated the turkey art, the bullshit stories about the Pilgrims and INdians….the whole thing reeked to me even as a child of religious white wash.
I never got over that deeply internal feeling. Add ugly commercialism and I like it even less.
